Part A: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or sound on the line.
1. The word 'net' has three sounds: /n/, /e/, /t/.
The middle sound of net is the short e, written /e/. So the three sounds are /n/, /e/, /t/.
2. Change the first letter of 'dog' to 'l' to make the word log.
Replace the d in dog with l and keep the o and g the same. The new word is log.
3. The word 'sun' belongs to the -un word family.
Words ending in -un, like sun, run, and fun, all belong to the -un family. Sun fits because it ends with those two letters.
4. The word 'lid' has three sounds: /l/, /i/, /d/.

5. Change the middle vowel in 'bug' to 'a' to make the word bag.
Swap the u in bug for an a, keeping the b and g. That gives bag.

8. Change the last letter of 'fin' to 't' to make the word fit.
Keep f and i from fin and change the n to t. The new word is fit.
9. A word that rhymes with 'cup' and starts with 'p' is pup.
A word that rhymes with cup ends in -up, and starting with p makes pup. So the answer is pup.
