Long Vowel Teams — Answer Key
Part A: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. We rowed the boat across the lake.
Boat uses the oa team. The o says long o and the a is silent, just like in other oa words.
2. In winter, white snow falls.
Snow ends with the ow team. Ow often spells long o at the end of words, so the o says its name.
3. Put on your warm coat.
Coat uses oa. Oa usually sits in the middle of a word, spelling long o with a silent a.
4. A turtle moves very slow.
Slow ends with ow. Like snow and low, ow spells long o at the ends of these words.
5. Cars drive on the road.
Road uses the oa team. The o is the talker saying long o and the a is silent.
6. Please sing a note that is low.
Low ends with the ow team. The o says its long name while the w helps make the team complete.
7. I wear a hat in the rain.
Rain uses the ai team for long a. It is a great review of our first long vowel team.
8. The sun comes up each day.
Day ends with the ay team for long a. Ay is the partner of ai and sits at word endings.
9. I got a letter in the mail.
Mail uses ai in the middle. The a says long a and the i is silent but needed for the team.
