Light & Sound — Answer Key
Part A: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. Light travels in straight lines until it hits something.
Light moves in straight paths from its source to objects.
2. A shadow forms when an object blocks the light.
Shadows appear where an object stops light from passing through.
3. Shadows are always on the opposite side of the light.
The object blocks light, so the dark shape appears behind it.
4. When you stand close to a lamp, your shadow looks bigger.
Closer objects block more light, making the shadow grow larger.
5. When you move far from the lamp, your shadow looks smaller.
Farther from the light means less light is blocked, so shadows shrink.
6. At noon the sun is high, so shadows look very short.
When the sun shines down from above, shadows squish under objects.
7. In the evening the sun is low, so shadows look long.
A low sun makes light hit sideways and stretches shadows out.
8. You need a source of light to make a shadow.
Without a light source, there is nothing to be blocked, so no shadow forms.
9. Your shadow copies your shape on the ground.
A shadow matches the outline of whatever blocks the light.
