Comparing Three-Digit Numbers — Answer Key
Part A: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. Write a number greater than 345 but less than 400: 350 .
Any number from 346 to 399 works; 350 is greater than 345 and less than 400, so it fits the range.
2. A number greater than 199 but less than 205 is 200 .
Numbers 200, 201, 202, 203, or 204 all fit; 200 is greater than 199 and less than 205.
3. Between 500 and 510, one possible number is 505 .
Numbers 501 through 509 all lie strictly between 500 and 510; 505 fits perfectly in the middle.
4. A number greater than 678 but less than 682 is 680 .
Only 679, 680, and 681 are greater than 678 and less than 682, so 680 is a valid choice.
5. Between 899 and 902 is 900 .
Only 900 and 901 fit between 899 and 902, and 900 is the simplest choice in that range.
6. Write any number greater than 250 but less than 260: 255 .
Numbers 251 through 259 all satisfy the range, and 255 sits neatly in the middle.
7. A number less than 400 but greater than 390 is 395 .
Any of 391 through 399 fits; 395 is greater than 390 and less than 400 as required.
8. Between 765 and 775, you can write 770 .
Numbers 766 through 774 all lie between 765 and 775; 770 is right in the middle of the range.
9. A number greater than 100 but less than 110 is 105 .
Numbers 101 through 109 all fit this range, and 105 sits in the middle.
Part B: Matching
Match each item on the left to the correct answer on the right.
1. Match each item to its correct answer.
3 hundreds 4 tens 5 ones
→ 345
345
5 hundreds 0 tens 2 ones
→ 502
502
7 hundreds 8 tens 0 ones
→ 780

1 hundred 9 tens 6 ones

Place-value phrases translate directly into digits: hundreds digit, tens digit, and ones digit. Matching them builds the numeral exactly.
