Even and Odd Numbers — Answer Key
Part A: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. You can make two equal groups of 5 from 10.
20 divided by 2 equals 10, so each friend gets 10 pencils.
2. Counting by 2s starting from 0 always lands on even numbers.
12 can be divided into two equal groups of 6, which means it is even.
3. You cannot split 7 into two equal whole groups.
The ones digit is the last digit in a number. In 47, the ones digit is 7.
4. The next even number after 24 is 26.
Even numbers go up by 2. After 24, the next even number is 26.
5. The next odd number after 35 is 37.
Odd numbers go up by 2. After 35, the next odd number is 37.
6. Skip counting by 2 from 1 gives 1, 3, 5, 7, which are all odd.
Odd numbers cannot be split into two equal groups. There is always one left over.
7. If you put 18 blocks in two equal rows, each row has 9.
18 divided by 2 equals 9, so each group has 9 stickers.
8. The number just before 50 is 49 and it is odd.
Odd numbers go up by 2. After 47, the next odd number is 49.
9. An even number of socks can always be sorted into pairs.
Even numbers can be divided into groups of 2 (pairs) with nothing left over.
Part B: Matching
Match each item on the left to the correct answer on the right.
1. Match each item to its correct answer.
12 apples in 2 bags
→ Even, 6 in each bag
Odd, cannot split equally
9 toys shared by 2 kids
→ Odd, cannot split equally

20 pencils in 2 boxes

Even, 6 in each bag
15 stickers for 2 friends

Odd, one friend gets more
Even numbers like 12 and 20 can be split into two equal groups. Odd numbers like 9 and 15 cannot be split evenly—one group will always have one more.
