Even & Odd Numbers — Answer Key
Part A: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. When you add two even numbers, the answer is always even.
Two even numbers each split into pairs, so their total can also split into pairs. For example, 4 + 6 = 10, which is even.
2. The even number that comes right before 22 is 20.
Even numbers skip by 2 each step. Going backward from 22 you pass the odd 21 and reach 20, which ends in the even digit 0.
3. The number 37 is odd because it ends in 7.
7 is one of the odd digits (1, 3, 5, 7, 9), so every number ending in 7 is odd. Splitting 37 into two groups leaves a remainder of 1.
4. If you add 1 to an even number, you always get an odd number.
Adding 1 to a number that splits evenly leaves one extra piece, so the total is odd. For example, 6 + 1 = 7, which is odd.
5. Count by 2s starting from 0: 0, 2, 4, 6, 8.
Each step adds 2, so 6 plus 2 lands on 8. Counting by 2s from 0 lists every even number in order.
6. The odd number between 10 and 14 that ends in 1 is 11.
Between 10 and 14 the numbers are 11, 12, and 13. Only 11 ends in 1, and 1 is an odd digit, so 11 fits both clues.
7. There are 5 even numbers between 1 and 10.
From 1 to 10 the even numbers are 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10. Count them and you get 5 even numbers in all.
8. The number 44 is even because it ends in 4.
4 is an even digit, so any number that ends in 4 is even. 44 also splits into two equal groups of 22.
9. When you add an even and an odd number, the answer is always odd.
The even number forms pairs, and the odd number adds one extra piece that will not pair up. For example, 4 + 3 = 7, which is odd.
Part B: Matching
Match each item on the left to the correct answer on the right.
1. Match each item to its correct answer.
