Part A: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. A pencil is 7 inches. A crayon is 5 inches. The pencil is longer.
7 inches is greater than 5 inches, so the pencil is longer than the crayon.
2. A rope is 18 inches and a ribbon is 12 inches. The difference is 6 inches.
18 − 12 = 6. The rope is 6 inches longer than the ribbon.

10 − 3 = 7. After cutting off 3 cm, 7 cm of string remains.
8. Jake measured a shelf as 36 inches. That is 3 feet.
36 ÷ 12 = 3. Since there are 12 inches in a foot, 36 inches equals 3 feet.
9. A pencil case is 8 inches. A ruler is 12 inches. The ruler is 4 inches longer.
12 − 8 = 4. The ruler is 4 inches longer than the pencil case.
