Number Lines — Answer Key
Part A: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. Between 30 and 40, the number 38 is closer to 40.
38 is only 2 away from 40 but 8 away from 30, so it sits much closer to 40.
2. Between 50 and 60, the number 52 is closer to 50.
52 is 2 away from 50 but 8 away from 60, so it sits much closer to the 50 end.
3. Between 20 and 30, the number 25 sits exactly halfway between the ticks.
25 is 5 away from 20 and 5 away from 30, so it is halfway between the two ticks.
4. Between 70 and 80, the number 79 is closer to 80.
79 is 1 away from 80 but 9 away from 70, so it is much closer to the 80 tick.
5. Between 40 and 50, the number 41 is closer to 40.
41 is only 1 away from 40 but 9 away from 50, so 40 is the closer tick on the line.
6. Between 60 and 70, the number 64 is closer to 60.
64 is 4 away from 60 and 6 away from 70, so it sits on the 60 side of halfway.
7. Between 10 and 20, a dot 1 step past 10 is closer to 10.
One step past 10 is 11, which is nearly touching 10 and far from 20.
8. Between 80 and 90, a dot right before 90 is closer to 90.
Right before 90 is only 1 or 2 away from 90 but almost a full 10 away from 80.
9. Between 30 and 40, a dot 5 steps past 30 is halfway between the two ticks.
5 steps is half of the 10 gap between 30 and 40, so the dot is halfway between them.
Part B: Matching
Match each item on the left to the correct answer on the right.
1. Match each item to its correct answer.
