Skip Counting — Answer Key
Part A: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. Count backward by 2s: 20, 18, 16, 14.
Going backward by 2s means subtracting 2 each time, so 16 - 2 = 14.
2. Count backward by 5s: 50, 45, 40, 35.
To count backward by 5s you subtract 5 each step, and 40 - 5 = 35.
3. Count backward by 10s: 100, 90, 80, 70.
Counting backward by 10 means subtracting 10 each time, so 80 - 10 = 70.
4. Count by 3s: 12, 15, 18, 21.
Each step adds 3 (12 to 15, 15 to 18), so the next number is 18 + 3 = 21.
5. Count backward by 3s: 30, 27, 24, 21.
Each step takes away 3 (30 - 3 = 27, 27 - 3 = 24), so the next number back is 24 - 3 = 21.
6. Count by 5s: 55, 60, 65, 70, 75.
Counting by 5s, 60 + 5 = 65. That fits since 65 + 5 gives 70, the next number shown.
7. Count backward by 2s: 30, 28, 26, 24, 22.
Going back by 2s means 28 - 2 = 26. You can check because 26 - 2 = 24, which is the next number in the list.
8. Count by 10s: 130, 140, 150, 160, 170.
The list jumps by 10 each step, so 140 + 10 = 150, which is also 10 less than 160.
9. Count backward by 10s: 200, 190, 180, 170.
Going backward by 10s means subtracting 10 each step, and 180 - 10 = 170.
Part B: Matching
Match each item on the left to the correct answer on the right.
1. Match each item to its correct answer.
Start at 6, count by 3s
→ 6, 9, 12, 15
20, 25, 30, 35
Start at 10, count by 2s
→ 10, 12, 14, 16
10, 12, 14, 16
Start at 30, count by 10s
→ 30, 40, 50, 60
6, 9, 12, 15
Start at 20, count by 5s
→ 20, 25, 30, 35
30, 40, 50, 60
Begin at the given number and add the skip size each time: 6 + 3 builds 6, 9, 12, 15; 10 + 2 builds 10, 12, 14, 16; 30 + 10 builds 30, 40, 50, 60; and 20 + 5 builds 20, 25, 30, 35.
