Pronouns — Answer Key
Part A: Fix the Sentence
Each sentence has an error. Rewrite it correctly on the line.
1. Fix the sentence:
Everyone bring their own lunch.
Corrected: Everyone brings their own lunch.
Everyone is singular, so the verb needs an -s: brings, not bring.
2. Fix the sentence:
Nobody were at the door.
Corrected: Nobody was at the door.
Nobody takes a singular verb, so we use was, not were.
3. Fix the sentence:
Is anybodies home right now?
Corrected: Is anybody home right now?
Anybody is an indefinite pronoun and does not add -s to make anybodies.
Part B: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. Someone left a backpack in the hallway.
Someone means one person we do not know by name yet.
2. I hear something buzzing near the window.
Something names an object or thing we cannot identify.
3. Nobody was absent from class today.
Nobody means not any person; it acts as a singular subject.
4. Does anyone know the answer to number five?
Anyone is used in questions and negatives to mean any single person.
Part C: True or False?
Read each statement. Circle True or False.
1. Everyone usually takes a singular verb.
True False
Even though it sounds plural, everyone means each one, so the verb is singular.
2. Something, someone, and somewhere are all indefinite pronouns or words.
True False
All three refer to unspecified things, people, or places, the job of indefinite words.
3. 'Nobody are playing outside' is correct.
True False
Nobody is singular, so it should be 'Nobody is playing outside.'
