Bar Graphs and Pictographs — Answer Key
Part A: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. A pictograph shows 8 bike symbols with a key of 2 each. Total bikes: 16.
Multiply the number of symbols by the key value: 8 × 2 = 16 bikes.
2. Bikes have 8 symbols and skateboards have 3 symbols (key=2). Bikes outnumber skateboards by 10.
Bikes = 8 × 2 = 16, Skateboards = 3 × 2 = 6. Difference: 16 − 6 = 10 more.
3. A bar graph shows Summer at 45 and Winter at 15. Summer has 30 more visitors.
Subtract Winter from Summer: 45 − 15 = 30 more.
4. If Spring=30, Summer=45, Fall=25, and Winter=15, the total visitors are 115.
Add all seasons: 30 + 45 + 25 + 15 = 115 total votes.
5. A pictograph has 9 chocolate symbols with a key of 10 each. That means 90 votes.
Multiply the number of symbols by the key value: 9 × 10 = 90.
6. Vanilla has 6 symbols and Strawberry has 4 symbols (key=10). Together they have 100 votes.
Vanilla = 6 × 10 = 60, Strawberry = 4 × 10 = 40. Together: 60 + 40 = 100.
7. On a bar graph, Sports reaches 40 and Art reaches 20. Sports is 2 times as many as Art.
Divide the larger by the smaller: 40 ÷ 20 = 2 times as many.
8. If apples have 7 symbols and pears have 4 symbols (key=5), apples total 15 more than pears.
Apples = 7 × 5 = 35, Pears = 4 × 5 = 20. Difference: 35 − 20 = 15 more.
9. A bar that stops halfway between 20 and 30 on a bar graph shows 25.
Halfway between 20 and 30 is (20 + 30) ÷ 2 = 25.
Part B: Matching
Match each item on the left to the correct answer on the right.
1. Match each item to its correct answer.
6 symbols, key = 5
→ 30
18
4 symbols, key = 10
→ 40
35
9 symbols, key = 2
→ 18
40
7 symbols, key = 5
→ 35
30
6×5=30, 4×10=40, 9×2=18, 7×5=35. Match each calculation to the correct total in the right column.
