Bar Graphs and Pictographs — Answer Key
Part A: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. Blue has 8 symbols with a key of 5. Blue represents 40 votes.
Read the value directly from the bar graph scale: the soccer bar reaches 40.
2. Blue (8 symbols) beats Green (3 symbols) by 25 votes when each symbol equals 5.
Halfway between 20 and 30 is (20 + 30) ÷ 2 = 25.
3. On a bar graph, Tigers shows 25 and Wolves shows 10. The difference is 15.
Subtract the shortest from the tallest: 40 − 25 = 15.
4. Lions (15) + Tigers (25) + Bears (20) + Wolves (10) = 70 animals in total.
Multiply the number of symbols by the key value: 7 × 10 = 70.
5. Cookies (7 symbols, key=2) totals 14.
Multiply the number of symbols by the key value: 7 × 2 = 14.
6. Cakes have 6 symbols and Brownies have 4 symbols (key=2). Cakes have 4 more.
The difference in symbol count is 8 − 4 = 4 symbols (or in value: 16 − 8 = 8).
7. On a bar graph where each grid line equals 10, a bar at the fourth line shows 40.
Add all categories: 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 40.
8. If Pens have 5 symbols and Pencils have 9 symbols (key=2), they total 28 items together.
Multiply the number of symbols by the key value: 14 × 2 = 28.
9. In a pictograph, the category with the fewest symbols has the lowest total.
Since each symbol represents the same value, the row with the fewest symbols has the lowest total.
Part B: Matching
Match each item on the left to the correct answer on the right.
1. Match each item to its correct answer.
8 symbols, key = 2
→ 16
6
5 symbols, key = 5
→ 25
70
7 symbols, key = 10
→ 70
25
3 symbols, key = 2
→ 6
16
8×2=16, 5×5=25, 7×10=70, 3×2=6. Match each calculation to the correct total in the right column.
