Division Facts 0-10 — Answer Key
Part A: Fix the Sentence
Each sentence has an error. Rewrite it correctly on the line.
1. Fix the sentence:
36 ÷ 9 = 3 because 9 times 3 is 36.
Corrected: 36 ÷ 9 = 4 because 9 times 4 is 36.
Nine times 3 is only 27, which is short of 36. Nine times 4 equals 36, so 36 ÷ 9 = 4 is the correct fact.
2. Fix the sentence:
48 ÷ 8 = 7 because 8 times 7 equals 48.
Corrected: 48 ÷ 8 = 6 because 8 times 6 equals 48.
Eight times 7 equals 56, not 48. The matching factor for 48 is 6 because 8 × 6 = 48, so 48 ÷ 8 = 6.
3. Fix the sentence:
45 ÷ 5 = 8 because 5 groups of 8 is 45.
Corrected: 45 ÷ 5 = 9 because 5 groups of 9 is 45.
Five groups of 8 give 40, which is less than 45. Five groups of 9 make 45, so 45 ÷ 5 = 9 is correct.
Part B: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. If 7 x 3 = 21, then 21 ÷ 7 = 3
Division reverses multiplication, so 7 × 3 = 21 means 21 ÷ 7 must give back the other factor, 3.
2. If 6 x 8 = 48, then 48 ÷ 6 = 8
Since 6 × 8 = 48, splitting 48 back into 6 equal groups returns the other factor, 8.
3. 56 ÷ 8 = 7
Eight times 7 equals 56, so 56 split into 8 equal groups gives 7 in each group.
4. 40 ÷ 5 = 8
Five times 8 makes 40, so dividing 40 back into 5 equal groups gives 8 in each group.
Part C: True or False?
Read each statement. Circle True or False.
1. Division is the opposite of multiplication.
True False
True. Multiplication builds equal groups and division splits a total back into equal groups, so they undo each other.
2. If 4 x 9 = 36, then 36 ÷ 4 = 9.
True False
True. The numbers 4, 9, and 36 form a fact family, so the multiplication fact 4 × 9 = 36 has the matching division 36 ÷ 4 = 9.
3. You can divide a number by 0 and get 0.
True False
False. Dividing by 0 is not allowed in math because no number of zero-sized groups can ever build up to a total.
