Summer Review Sheets — Answer Key
Part A: Fix the Sentence
Each sentence has an error. Rewrite it correctly on the line.
1. Fix the sentence:
The beach was more beautifuller than the park on that sunny day.
Corrected: The beach was more beautiful than the park on that sunny day.
Do not use both 'more' and '-er/-est' together. Since 'beautiful' is a long adjective, only 'more beautiful' is correct — 'more beautifuller' is a double comparative.
2. Fix the sentence:
32 stickers shared equally among 8 children gives each child 3 stickers.
Corrected: 32 stickers shared equally among 8 children gives each child 4 stickers.
32 ÷ 8 = 4 stickers each, not 3. Check: 8 × 4 = 32.
3. Fix the sentence:
The camp counselor told the childrens to line up for lunch.
Corrected: The camp counselor told the children to line up for lunch.
'Children' is already the plural of 'child', so adding an 's' is wrong. Some irregular nouns do not use '-s' for their plural form.
Part B: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. 7 times 8 sandcastles equals 56 sandcastles.
7 × 8 = 56. Think (7 × 10) - (7 × 2) = 70 - 14 = 56.
2. A summary retells the most important events in a story.
A good summary picks out only the most important events, not every little detail. It is a short retelling of the big moments.
3. 54 divided by 6 equals 9.
54 ÷ 6 = 9. Check: 6 × 9 = 54, so the division is correct.
4. 33 of a whole watermelon is the same as 1 whole watermelon.
When the numerator equals the denominator, the fraction equals 1 whole. 33 means all 3 of the 3 equal parts, which is the whole.
Part C: True or False?
Read each statement. Circle True or False.
1. 9 times 4 equals 36.
True False
9 × 4 = 36. Think (10 × 4) - 4 = 40 - 4 = 36.
2. 26 is equal to 12.
True False
26 simplifies to 13, not 12. For it to equal 12, you would need 36, not 26.
3. 48 divided by 8 equals 6.
True False
48 ÷ 8 = 6. Check: 8 × 6 = 48, so the division works out perfectly.
