Summer Review Sheets — Answer Key
Part A: Fix the Sentence
Each sentence has an error. Rewrite it correctly on the line.
1. Fix the sentence:
Me and my brother went to the water park last saturday.
Corrected: My brother and I went to the water park last Saturday.
Put yourself last ('My brother and I') and use 'I' as the subject, not 'Me'. Also, days of the week like 'Saturday' are always capitalized.
2. Fix the sentence:
36 tickets shared equally among 4 rides gives 8 tickets per ride.
Corrected: 36 tickets shared equally among 4 rides gives 9 tickets per ride.
36 ÷ 4 = 9 tickets per ride, not 8. Check: 4 × 9 = 36.
3. Fix the sentence:
If you drink 48 of the water bottle, you drank four eighths or one fourth.
Corrected: If you drink 48 of the water bottle, you drank four eighths or one half.
48 simplifies to 12 by dividing both numbers by 4. One fourth would equal 28, not 48.
Part B: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. 8 times 6 swim goggles equals 48 swim goggles.
8 × 6 = 48. You can double three times: 8, 16, 32, 48 — or think of (8 × 5) + 8 = 40 + 8 = 48.
2. The setting of a story is where and when it takes place.
The setting has two parts: place (where) and time (when). Both together set the scene for the story.
3. 63 divided by 7 equals 9.
63 ÷ 7 = 9. Check: 7 × 9 = 63, so the division is correct.
4. One liter is the same as 1,000 milliliters.
The prefix 'milli-' means one-thousandth, so 1 liter contains 1,000 milliliters. Water bottles often list both units.
Part C: True or False?
Read each statement. Circle True or False.
1. 6 times 9 equals 54.
True False
6 × 9 = 54. Think (6 × 10) - 6 = 60 - 6 = 54.
2. 28 is equal to 12.
True False
28 simplifies to 14, not 12. For it to equal 12, you would need 48, not 28.
3. 72 divided by 8 equals 9.
True False
72 ÷ 8 = 9. Check: 8 × 9 = 72, so the division works out correctly.
