Summer Review Sheets — Answer Key
Part A: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. A pool has 7 lanes with 4 swimmers each, so there are 28 swimmers.
7 lanes × 4 swimmers = 28 swimmers. Skip-counting by 4 seven times gives 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28.
2. If 36 of the campers chose hiking, that equals 12 of the campers.
36 simplifies to 12 by dividing both numbers by 3. Three out of six equal parts is exactly half.
3. 63 seashells divided equally among 7 buckets means 9 shells per bucket.
63 ÷ 7 = 9 shells per bucket. Check: 7 × 9 = 63.
4. The theme of a story is different from the topic because the theme is a message.
A topic is just what the story is about (like 'friendship'), but a theme is a deeper message (like 'true friends help each other'). Theme teaches a lesson.
5. A camp trail is 8 feet long and 3 feet wide, so its perimeter is 22 feet.
Perimeter = 8 + 3 + 8 + 3 = 22 feet. The shortcut 2 × (8 + 3) = 2 × 11 = 22 works too.
6. 9 times 6 ice cream cones equals 54 cones.
9 × 6 = 54. Think (9 × 5) + 9 = 45 + 9 = 54 to check.
7. 48 of the swim team finished first, which simplifies to 12.
48 simplifies to 12 by dividing both numbers by 4. Four out of eight equal parts is half.
8. A lifeguard stand is 12 feet tall. That is the same as 4 yards.
1 yard equals 3 feet, so divide: 12 ÷ 3 = 4 yards. Yard-to-feet conversion always uses 3.
9. 56 oranges split equally into 8 bags means 7 oranges per bag.
56 ÷ 8 = 7 oranges per bag. Check: 8 × 7 = 56.
Part B: Matching
Match each item on the left to the correct answer on the right.
1. Match each item to its correct answer.
Product
→ The answer to a multiplication problem
Bottom number in a fraction
Quotient
→ The answer to a division problem
The answer to a division problem
Numerator
→ Top number in a fraction
Top number in a fraction
Denominator
→ Bottom number in a fraction
The answer to a multiplication problem
Each math term names a specific answer or position: product comes from multiplication, quotient from division, numerator is on top of a fraction, and denominator is on the bottom. Remember the first letter clues: 'p' for product from multiplication, 'q' for quotient from division.
