Summer Review Sheets — Answer Key
Part A: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. A water slide has 9 turns. If 5 slides each have 9 turns, that is 45 turns total.
5 slides × 9 turns = 45 turns. Skip-counting by 9 five times gives 9, 18, 27, 36, 45.
2. A word that has a similar meaning to another word is called a synonym.
Synonyms have the same or very similar meaning, like 'big' and 'large'. The prefix 'syn-' means 'same'.
3. 42 pool noodles shared equally among 7 kids means 6 noodles each.
42 ÷ 7 = 6 noodles each. Check: 7 × 6 = 42.
4. 68 of the wave pool simplifies to 34.
Divide both 6 and 8 by 2 to simplify: 68 becomes 34. Six out of eight equal parts matches three out of four.
5. A square splash pad with 8-foot sides has an area of 64 square feet.
Area of a square = side × side, so 8 × 8 = 64 square feet. A square always has 4 equal sides.
6. 7 times 9 towels equals 63 towels.
7 × 9 = 63. Think (7 × 10) - 7 = 70 - 7 = 63.
7. Details that support the main idea of a paragraph are called supporting details.
Supporting details give facts and examples that back up the main idea. They help prove the big point the paragraph is making.
8. 54 divided by 9 equals 6.
54 ÷ 9 = 6. Check: 9 × 6 = 54.
9. A water jug holds 2 liters. That equals 2,000 milliliters.
1 liter = 1,000 milliliters, so 2 liters × 1,000 = 2,000 milliliters. The prefix 'milli-' always means one-thousandth.
Part B: Matching
Match each item on the left to the correct answer on the right.
1. Match each item to its correct answer.
24
→ 12
14
26
→ 13
12
48
→ 12
13
28
→ 14
12
Each fraction simplifies by dividing both numbers by their greatest common factor: 24 and 48 both reduce to 12, 26 becomes 13, and 28 becomes 14. Find the common factor, then divide top and bottom.
