1. A summer camp has 6 cabins with 14 kids each. After 12 kids leave, how many remain? Show your steps.

Total kids = 6×14 = 84. Remaining = 84 − 12 = 72.
2. In a summer story, the narrator says "I could not wait to jump into the cool blue pool." What does this tell you about the weather? Explain.
Sample answer: It tells me the weather is very hot. The narrator wants to jump into the cool water to escape the summer heat.
The narrator's focus on cool water on a scorching day reveals discomfort from the heat and longing for relief.
