Comparing Lengths — Answer Key
Part A: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. If a book is 8 cubes and a pen is 5 cubes, the book is longer.
Eight cubes is more than five so the book covers more length.
2. Estimate first: a marker is about 5 paper clips long.
Markers usually fit about five paper clips lined end to end.
3. A shoe that is 6 cubes is longer than a key that is 2 cubes.
More cubes means longer so the shoe stretches farther than the key.
4. If table is 12 clips wide, it is wider than a 4-clip plate.
A bigger clip count shows the table spans more width than the plate.
5. Use cubes to measure: 3 cubes plus 2 cubes equals 5 cubes.
Combining three and two cubes gives a total length of five cubes.
6. A crayon about 4 clips long is shorter than an 8-clip pencil case.
Fewer clips means shorter so the crayon is smaller than the case.
7. An object that is 0 cubes long has no length.
Zero cubes shows the object covers no measurable length whatsoever.
8. Lining up cubes end to end with no gaps gives the true length.
Tight cube lines without gaps give an accurate true measurement result.
9. If your estimate was 5 and actual is 6, you were off by 1.
Being off by one means your estimate missed the real count slightly.
Part B: Matching
Match each item on the left to the correct answer on the right.
1. Match each item to its correct answer.
Pencil
→ 6 paper clips
6 paper clips
Eraser
→ 2 paper clips
2 paper clips
Notebook
→ 10 cubes
10 cubes
Tape strip
→ 15 cubes
15 cubes
Smaller objects need fewer units while bigger items need more cubes or clips.
