Comparing Lengths — Answer Key
Part A: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. A spoon that is 4 cubes is shorter than a fork that is 5 cubes.
Fewer cubes means a shorter length compared to the fork's measurement.
2. Estimate first: a shoe is about 8 cubes long.
Most kids' shoes line up to about eight cubes from heel to toe.
3. A 10-clip jump rope is longer than a 3-clip ribbon.
More clips means more length so the rope stretches much farther.
4. If two pencils are each 5 cubes, together they are 10 cubes.
Two pencils placed end to end add up to ten cubes total length.
5. A same unit means each cube must be the same size.
Using equal cubes ensures fair counts so length comparisons stay accurate.
6. Place units end to end with no overlaps for the right count.
End-to-end placement without overlapping gives the right correct unit count.
7. If you guess 7 and the real answer is 7, your estimate is exact.
Matching the actual count exactly means your estimate was perfectly correct.
8. A book 9 cubes wide is wider than a card 3 cubes wide.
More cubes across shows the book covers a greater width than card.
9. Comparing two objects, the one with more units is longer.
An object measuring more units always covers more total length than fewer.
Part B: Matching
Match each item on the left to the correct answer on the right.
1. Match each item to its correct answer.
Crayon
→ 3 cubes
3 cubes
Marker
→ 6 cubes
6 cubes
Ruler
→ 12 cubes
12 cubes
Backpack
→ 20 cubes
20 cubes
Crayons are small while backpacks are big so cube counts grow accordingly.
