Count & Represent Objects 1–10 — Answer Key
Part A: Fill in the Missing Number
Write the missing number on each line.
1. A group of 4 balls and a group of 6 balls. The group with more has 6.
6 is more than 4. The group with 6 balls is the bigger group.
2. A group of 8 trees and a group of 3 trees. The group with fewer has 3.
3 is fewer than 8. The group with 3 trees is the smaller group.
3. 5 flowers and 5 leaves. These two groups have the same number.
Both groups have 5. When two groups have the same count, they are equal.
4. If you count 8 ducks, the last number you say is 8.
The last number you say is 8. This is cardinality — the last number names the total.
5. One more than 7 is 8.
One more than 7 is 8. The number after 7 is 8.
6. One less than 10 is 9.
One less than 10 is 9. The number before 10 is 9.
7. A group of 2 fish and a group of 9 fish. Which group has more? The group of 9.
9 is more than 2. The group of 9 fish has more.
8. You have 6 carrots. Your friend has 6 carrots. You have the same many.
Both have 6 carrots. Same amount means equal — you have the same many.
9. There are 10 birds. One flies away. Now there are 9.
10 - 1 = 9. One bird flew away so 9 birds remain.
Part B: Matching
Match each group description to the correct number.
1. Draw a line to match.
A group of 10 raindrops
→ 10
8
A group of 4 butterflies
→ 4
2
A group of 8 cookies
→ 8
10
A group of 2 rockets
→ 2
4
Match each group to its number: raindrops→10, butterflies→4, cookies→8, rockets→2.
