Part A: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. If you have 3 cats and get 2 more, you have 5 cats.
A ladybug has 6 legs. Count them: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Insects always have 6 legs.
2. A hand has 5 fingers.
When counting by ones, the next number after 8 is 9: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.
3. Count 4 birds and 4 dogs. That is 8 animals.
Each foot has 5 toes. Count them: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
4. The number that comes after 6 is 7.
A stop sign has 8 sides. It is a special shape called an octagon.
5. If you take 1 away from 10, you have 9.
3 red balls plus 4 blue balls is 7 balls. Count on from 3: 4, 5, 6, 7.
6. A group of 3 apples and 3 oranges makes 6 fruits.
The number just before 10 is 9. When you count, 9 comes right before 10.
7. The number before 5 is 4.
Two groups of 5 make 10. Count 5 and then 5 more: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
8. Two groups of 4 stars is 8 stars in all.
A cat has 2 ears, one on each side of its head.
9. If you see 1 sun and 1 moon, that is 2 objects.
The missing number is 3 because when you count in order it goes: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
