Winter Holiday Counting & Tracing — Answer Key
Part A: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. Santa has 8 reindeer that fly.
In the famous poem, Santa has eight reindeer pulling his sleigh: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen. Counting all those names adds up to 8.
2. We hang lights on the holiday tree.
Holiday lights are tiny glowing bulbs on a long string that wrap around the branches of the tree. They make the tree sparkle and shine in the dark.
3. A candy cane is shaped like the letter J.
A candy cane has a long straight part and a curved hook at the top, which looks exactly like the capital letter J. Flip it upside down and it looks like a walking cane instead.
4. Frosty the Snowman wears a top hat.
In the famous song, a magic top hat brought Frosty to life. A top hat is a tall black hat with a flat top that sits on his snowy head.
5. A wreath is shaped like a circle.
A wreath is made of green branches bent into a round ring with no beginning or end. That round shape is called a circle.
6. We count down the days on an advent calendar.
An advent calendar has little doors numbered 1 through 24 that you open one day at a time in December. It helps kids count down the days until Christmas.
7. Snowflakes fall from the sky.
Snowflakes start inside cold clouds high above us, then drift down toward the ground. Whenever something falls from clouds, we say it falls from the sky.
8. Jingle bells ring during the holidays.
"Jingle bells" is both a famous holiday song and the name for the small round bells that make a jingling sound. They ring when you shake them.
9. Holiday cookies are baked in an oven.
An oven is the hot box in your kitchen where you bake food. The heat cooks the dough and turns soft cookie balls into golden-brown cookies.
