Verbs — Answer Key
Part A: Trace the Words
Trace each word carefully by following the dotted lines.
1. throw
2. catch
3. pull
4. push
5. draw
6. wave
Part B: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. He can throw the ball.
The whole idea of a verb is to tell what is happening. So a verb shows action — something somebody is doing.
2. She will draw the picture.
Skip is an action, and an action is something a person does. So the word that finishes the sentence is does.
3. They pull the wagon.
Both stomp and spin name movements you do with your body, so they belong to the family of action words.
4. I wave to my friend.
Without an action word, a sentence is just a bunch of names. A verb is the piece that tells what is happening, so every sentence needs one.
Part C: True or False?
Read each statement. Circle True or False.
1. The word push is a verb.
True False
True — spinning and skipping are both things you do with your body, so each one is a verb.
2. The word happy is a verb.
True False
False — red is a color. You can see red, but you cannot DO a red, so it is not a verb.
3. The word catch is a verb.
True False
True — think of a cat pouncing or a fish swimming. Whenever an animal does something, we use a verb to say what it is.
