Time (Hours & Half Hours) — Answer Key
Part A: Trace the Words
Trace each word carefully by following the dotted lines.
1. clock
2. hour
3. half
4. hand
5. time
6. minute
Part B: Fill in the Blank
Write the missing word or number on each line.
1. The minute hand is the longest hand on a clock.
The minute hand stretches almost to the edge of the clock, which makes it the longest pointer. The shorter pointer is the hour hand.
2. At 3 o clock the short hand points to 3.
At any "o'clock" time, the short hand points exactly at the hour number. So at 3 o'clock, it points right at the 3.
3. Half past 1 means the minute hand points to 6.
Half past any hour means 30 minutes have gone by, which is halfway around the clock. The 6 sits directly across from the 12, which is exactly the halfway spot.
4. We use a clock to tell time.
Clocks have numbers and moving hands — or a glowing digital screen — that show us what time it is. That is their one special job.
Part C: True or False?
Read each statement. Circle True or False.
1. The hour hand is the longer hand on a clock.
True False
The hour hand is actually the shorter of the two. Remember: big word "minute" stands for the big, long hand.
2. At 6 o clock the short hand points to 6.
True False
At o'clock times, the hour hand lines up exactly with the hour number. Six o'clock means the short hand is aimed straight at the 6.
3. Half past means the minute hand points to 12.
True False
The minute hand points to 12 only at "o'clock" times, not half past. At half past, the long hand has traveled halfway around and points to the 6.
